Oystercatchers at Mallsgate Hall - Tuesday, August 03, 2010
After the long dry spell which has lasted from before lambing time to early July, our pond is 5 feet below its normal level and now half the pond bed is dry. Surprisingly, we have a pair of Oystercatchers in residence there and from the way they circle around without leaving when disturbed, we suspect that they have a family. This is a first for Mallsgate and more than justifies the creation of this new pond whch was designed to bring in duck in the Winter! Hopefully with the newly planted woodland adjacent, the pond will draw in other first time species for us.
